The Meteor
The Meteor was a survey vessel. A survey vessel is a ship or boat that is used for mapping things such as the ocean floor. It was built in 1925 and was the first research and survey vessel with this name. There will later be two more Meteor ships. It was 97.50 meters in length and it had many different equipment on it such as the integrated navigation system with data transfer to position computer, echosounder synchronization and supervision, and a data-processing facility. They had 20 laboratories on the main deck. It was owned by the German navy and was based in Wilhelmshaven. One of its first expeditions was the German Atlantic Ocean Expedition. After a few expeditions, this vessel was used for German chemical, physical and microbiological marine investigations. It was also used for navy surveying and protecting the fish.
After the first Meteor, Meteor II and the Multipurpose Meteor III was created.
